What a kundli shows

A kundli, also called a janam kundli or birth chart, is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born. In Vedic astrology it is drawn from the sidereal zodiac, which follows the fixed stars, so it can place a planet one sign earlier than the Western chart you may have seen.

The first thing it fixes is your ascendant, the lagna: the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon. The twelve houses are counted from it, and each planet falls in one of them. Next come the signs of the Sun and the Moon. Your Moon sign, the rashi, is the one most people mean when they ask what their sign is in Vedic astrology.

The Moon also sits in one of 27 nakshatras, each divided into four padas, and that position starts your Vimshottari dasha, a sequence of planetary periods across a lifetime. This page shows all of that in plain words. It does not predict events.

How this free kundli is worked out

The positions come from an astronomical calculation on our server, not from an AI. We use the Lahiri ayanamsa, which is the standard in India, whole-sign houses, and the mean positions of Rahu and Ketu. The same engine draws the chart inside the app, so the chart here and the chart you see after signing in always agree.

Other websites sometimes show slightly different results. The usual reasons are a different ayanamsa, a different house system, true instead of mean nodes, or a different birth time or place. If a sign boundary is close, a few minutes can move a planet into the next sign.

Why your birth time matters

The Moon moves about thirteen degrees in a day and the ascendant changes sign roughly every two hours. A few minutes of error can leave most of the chart unchanged, but it can also move the ascendant, the houses and the exact dasha dates.

If you know your birth time, use the one on the birth certificate or hospital record, and enter it as it was shown on the clock that day. If you only know it roughly, enter your best estimate and treat the ascendant and the houses as approximate.

If you do not know the time at all, tick that box. You will still get the signs of the planets, but not the ascendant or the houses, and the dasha dates are approximate.

Birth place and the clock on that day

Choose your birth place from the list. We use its latitude, longitude and time zone to turn local clock time into the real moment of birth. Pick the nearest town if your village is not listed.

Clocks have not always followed the same rules. If your birth fell when the clocks were turned back, one clock time happened twice, and we will ask you which one it was. If it fell when the clocks were moved forward, that time may not have existed, and we will ask you to check it.

Your privacy

Birth details are personal. This tool does not ask for your name, phone number or email. The details you enter are sent once over a secure connection, used to work out the chart, and then forgotten. Nothing is written to a database, a cookie or your device, and our server logs record only that a request happened and how long it took, never what was in it.

We do not use these details for advertising or to train any model, and the tool makes no AI calls. You confirm that you are 18 or older before the chart is shown, because the app is for adults. If you choose to sign in later, you will be asked for your details again, with the usual notices and consent.

This is guidance and reflection. It is not medical, legal or financial advice, and nothing here is a prediction or a promise.

Where to go next

To understand what you see, read the plain-language guides below. When you want to talk it through, the free AI guide can explain your own chart in simple words.

Free kundli: common questions

Is this kundli really free?

Yes. The kundli on this page is free, needs no sign-up and has no hidden charge. The AI guide in the app is free too.

Do I need to log in or give my phone number?

No. You enter your birth date, time and place and tick that you are 18 or older. We do not ask for a name, phone number or email.

Is my birth data saved anywhere?

No. The details are used once to work out the chart and are not stored on our servers, in a cookie or on your device. Close the page and they are gone.

What if I do not know my birth time?

Tick that you do not know it. You will see the sign of each planet, but not the ascendant or the houses, and the dasha dates will be approximate.

Why does my kundli look different on another website?

Different sites can use a different ayanamsa, house system or node setting, or a different birth time or place. We use the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses and mean nodes, and say so on this page.

Does this kundli predict my future?

No. It shows where the planets were when you were born and which dasha is running. It is for guidance and reflection, not prediction, and nothing in it is guaranteed.

Why do I have to confirm that I am 18 or older?

The app is for adults. Because nothing is saved, the tick is a simple confirmation that you can use the tool, and we cannot check it.
